NOTES for Ch2 4:1-22

When the Temple stood in the middle of Jerusalem, there seemed to be no need to write descriptions of it; everyone who came to Jerusalem could see it, and its many ministers also knew the details of its arrangement. But the Temple has long since disappeared from the earth, its furnishings were plundered by conquerors and vanished, while we who read the Book can imagine with a high degree of probability what the Temple was like; we can almost see its details.

And so it turns out that what people considered strongest and most reliable, what they made from solid stones, costly wood, and precious metals, was unable to survive and reach our time. But what was preserved in the word, weightless and invisible, has outlived the centuries. This means that what seems fragile can prove stronger than what we are accustomed to regard as solid. Yet can this be accidental, if the Lord Himself, who created the world by His word, is called the Word in the Gospel of John?
