NOTES for Mar 11:27-33
The Pharisees do not need the truth. They consider possible answers to Christ’s question, but even for themselves they do not ask: what, then, is the truth? Their customary intellectual game, sorting through possibilities—this answer will lead to such consequences, while that one will produce this or that result—has obscured the need to stand face to face with the truth and accept it.
This is an ancient temptation and one of the most contemporary. The subtlest logical moves and combinations of virtual models become a habitual means not only of knowing the world but also of escaping reality. We then risk turning away not only from what surrounds us, but also from the One Who is the Truth.
