NOTES for Jer 45:1-46:28
The prophecy addressed personally to one man, Baruch, introduces a series of prophecies about the Gentile nations, and somehow, strangely, the former proves no less significant than those that follow. To God, the life of one person is as important and precious as the life of the entire people of God; this is why the closing verses of chapters 45 and 46 are so similar. Everything pagan, everything afflicted by rejection of the one God, falls under God’s wrath and will be destroyed; but those who cry out to God, those who turn to Him, will be preserved—and this applies both to the people of Israel and to one individual.
