NOTES for Rom 8:26-30
God loves us always, constantly, without stopping for a single second. And nothing “can separate us” from His love. Nothing external can do so: no other creature, not even tribulation. Only sin can. We ourselves can. God gave us freedom, including the freedom to reject Him, His love, and His forgiveness. Father Daniel-Ange wrote, “Sin is a short circuit of love.” We begin to resist God’s love when we commit a sin; we separate ourselves from it when we refuse to ask forgiveness. God can forgive everything, everything of which we repent. He gives us the strength to forgive and ask forgiveness; He gives us the strength to change; He loves us and always receives us. Only we ourselves can reject Him; He has given us that freedom. And then we drive yet another nail into His hands, which are open toward us.
