NOTES for Mat 24:42-51

Of course, we believe in the Lord's Second Coming; we believe that He will come in power and glory, the Victor over every evil, bringing the history of this world to its completion and opening the gates into some new mode of being, where there will be a new earth and a new heaven. And of course, we understand that we have not been given knowledge of when this will happen. Christians have believed and waited for two thousand years, yet the Second Coming has still not taken place. It may not happen in our lifetime either! But what does that change in our lives? This is what Jesus' parable is about. A good servant is one who always works well, for whom the master is always nearby. Yet is this not true for us too? Christ has not gone away entirely; He has remained with us. Is He not our King and God, the Victor over our evil? Do we not feel His gracious power? Was our life not completely renewed when He entered it? Thus, for us who believe in Him, there is no fundamental difference between the First and Second Comings, and this can and should determine our life.
