NOTES for JamĀ 2:1-13
Militant atheists who knowingly misrepresented the essence of Christianity to trusting people did not like to quote these words, which refute their claims that Christianity defends the interests of the rich alone. That is what one might expect from atheists—but why did Christians themselves not always follow these apostolic words? The call to equality was very often forgotten, and with time preference began to be given to the noble and wealthy even in church assemblies.
Does this mean that the apostle’s word proved powerless? No. It means that any unhealthy phenomena brought into the Church by human sinfulness are incompatible with her and will inevitably be cast off. As for us, we should continually measure our lives against Scripture.
