NOTES for Col 3:1-4

What does Easter mean for us? Of course, we all know that it is the day of Christ’s Resurrection, His victory over death. But what does it mean for us personally? The Apostle Paul gives us a clue in today’s reading. Easter Sunday is impossible without Good Friday. Resurrection is impossible if there has been no death. Whoever has not died cannot rise! And Paul says plainly and clearly: you have died. Easter in our life is first and foremost a reminder that we must be dead to sin. If I feel that my life is impossible without sin (and I am not especially eager to give it up), then I have not died with Christ. And for one who has not died, as we have already said, there can be no resurrection. Easter is the feast of Israel’s passage from slavery to freedom, and of each person’s passage from the death of sin to life with God. But for Easter to become a reality in our life, we must take a step toward God and die to sin in order to live with Him.
