NOTES for Luk 4:1-15
As always, Satan proposes things that are entirely normal by the world’s standards: if you are able, take everything you can from life; if you want to live in the world, accept its laws; if you speak of God’s love, why not put it to the test? (When one reads this passage, advertising slogans somehow spring to mind of their own accord.) Indeed, why not? But it turns out that Christ calls us not to a “normal” life, but to a real one. With three simple quotations from Deuteronomy that run counter to the norms of the modern world, Jesus tells us about the life He Himself lives and offers to us.
