NOTES for Pro 25:1-28
Today's chapter opens the final part of the book of Proverbs. The sayings gathered here are attributed to King Solomon and are the oldest part of the entire book. Once again we can observe that practically every verse in the reading was later repeated in the Gospel or the apostles' Epistles.
Reading each verse separately, one can only note how little human beings have changed in their essence since ancient times. The thought that to seek glory is no glory sounds unexpectedly fresh. It would seem obvious, but all the life around us is permeated by this humiliating action of “seeking.” A person longs for recognition and is offended when he is not recognized or remembered at a meeting. How much effort is spent ensuring that, in a narrow or broad circle, everyone knows one's name and the details of one's biography. But that is not glory; it is merely how human beings understand it. Wisdom consists in realizing how much our heart tries to hide from the glory that God wishes to give us.
