NOTES for Est 9:15-10:3

At the end of the story of Mordecai and Esther, the book’s author tells us that the events he has described were the reason for establishing the feast of Purim. The ordinances intended to ensure that Jews of every generation would not forget these events are listed in detail. But the central point is stated in the final brief chapter. What exactly are they invited to celebrate and remember? The author says that God remembered his inheritance, saved his people, and changed their destiny. God is the sovereign of history, and the lives of the faithful are in his hands: this is the central message of the whole book.
