NOTES for Psa 146
Psalm 145 praises God for His mercy toward the poor, the weak, and the sick—toward those whom people despise or forget, including princes and sons of men. But let us consider: how does God most often help us in our needs? Through other people, of course! Addressing the Christians of Corinth, the Apostle Paul calls them to help the needy community in Jerusalem and thus reveal God’s concern for their needs. The fact that the Corinthians do not know the brothers in Jerusalem personally brings them closer to fulfilling Christ’s astonishing commandment (Matt 5:43-48) and means living not according to the flesh but according to the spirit.
