NOTES for Joh 16:16-20
Jesus says: "You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy." We are used to these words and no longer notice that the logical connection is not obvious. Ordinary logic would be this: "There will be problems now, but do not worry; later everything will work out and all will be well." But Jesus says that the very thing that was the cause of sorrow will also become the cause of joy; if there is no sorrow, there will be no joy.
Indeed, without Good Friday there can be no Easter Sunday. And in the life of each of us there are moments when it is necessary to go through, to live through, something very frightening and painful, because through this small death the Lord will give resurrection.
