NOTES for Isa 8:1-22

In the face of a military threat, Judah faced a political choice: either make an alliance with Syria and Samaria against Assyria, or do the opposite. Having chosen the support of the Assyrians, King Ahaz awaits an attack from the north. But the prophet reminds him that the Lord is the true ruler of history, and that the alliance must be made with Him. When we find ourselves in a difficult situation, we too often do not know whom to turn to for help. But those who have made a covenant with God must turn first of all to Him.
