NOTES for Joh 1:47-51

It often seems to us that the Lord calls us at the wrong time. We try to tell Him that we still have a pile of things to do, that first we want to do this and that. When He calls us to do something active in His Name, we reproach God with His own words: "Mary has chosen the good portion," and accuse Him of allegedly forcing us into busyness. When God calls us to put aside all our tasks in order to stand in prayer, in order to commune with Him, we sometimes even answer Him with a quotation: "Faith without works is dead." We plug our ears against the true voice of God by using His words that were also addressed to us, but at another time.
