NOTES for Exo 15:1-27
If God is a servant, then there is no reason to give thanks. But Moses and the people he leads after him perceive God as the Lord of all. They worship Him, the One who created the world. But, most important, they realize that God is free. He may not answer a prayer, or He may answer in a way a person does not want. He has His own answer to every question. And gratitude to God, who is One, whose Name is holy. Gratitude, praise, and joy are what distinguish the chosen people from the pagans who live alongside them.
