NOTES for JerĀ 9:1-26

Falsehood and treachery rule everywhere on earth. The formula for the interdependence of different kinds of evil is simple: first falsehood on the tongue, then untruth in deeds, and finally the transition from one kind of evil to another becomes a habitual sequence, like wandering in circles through a dense forest. This is no wonder, because no attention is paid to the One who can be the only guide. "They do not know Me," says the Lord through the prophet.

They do not know Him not in theory - theoretical knowledge is perhaps plentiful enough - but among people to whom, it would seem, He has given everything necessary, there is no knowledge of the heart, no trust in the Lord, and no desire to live according to His truth. Outwardly pious norms are observed, but without inner fullness they become hypocrisy. Hypocrisy also rules in relationships among people. Falsehood rules in the world.

But an account will have to be given for this. Those who have set out on the path of falsehood have brought death upon themselves.
