NOTES for Isa 54:1-17
Most often, when people think about God, they associate Him with the demands He makes of them: with commandments, with morality... For example, we all know that God requires us to love one another, to forgive wrongs, and to be faithful in marriage.
But our attitude toward Him changes radically when we understand that He Himself is the first to fulfill all these demands! He compares Himself to a faithful husband ready to take back an unfaithful wife, to someone who redeems his brothers from slavery (this may be the meaning of the word “redeemer”), and to a father building a home for his children. The source of human love, justice, faithfulness, and mercy is in Him. And it is He, fulfilling His own commandment, Who can teach us to do the same.
