NOTES for Isa 62:1-12
A prophet's ministry is to be one of those who 'keep reminding people of the Lord,' appointed to awaken people constantly, again and again, from spiritual slumber. This ministry is his inner need 'not to keep silent for Zion's sake,' not to cease speaking of God's wrath and God's love, of repentance and joy. To one degree or another, this is also the ministry of each of us, for the Spirit of prophecy and understanding rests upon believers too. Of course, words are not the only way to speak of God; indeed, what matters most often cannot be expressed in words. But our faith, our participation in the divine life of the Spirit, must somehow find expression in our relationships with the people around us, to whom we are called to proclaim the Good News in word and deed, and in our relationship with ourselves, for we too need to remind ourselves every hour of What Matters Most.
