King James Version (en)

Matthew, Chapter 6,  verses 1-15

23 Christ is brought back again into Galilee to Nazareth,
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

NOTES

Jesus, in essence, makes a revolution in the understanding and practice of prayer. It turns out that God has no need at all of our prayer requests. Moreover, the one who asks also does not need prayer. Someone may object...

God Himself never forces His mercy on anyone. Even His coming into this world takes place simply as...

The first three verses of the "Our Father," the Lord's Prayer, in a sense speak about the same thing - the Kingdom. A kingdom is the King's domain. We ask that our world belong more fully to the King, that in it...

FAQ

Could you please explain? "...whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also". Why?

In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself explains these words quite clearly, saying, "do not resist an evil person". In human society, including in Israel during the time of Christ's earthly life, the widespread opinion is that violence must be avenged...

What are the 2 variants of understanding life (what is common, what is different) in the book of Ecclesiastes and in the Sermon on the Mount (Gospel of Matthew chapters 5-7)? What is the purpose, meaning, and value of life?

Both of these biblical texts, so different at first glance, reflect a single understanding of life. The foundation of the understanding of life in Ecclesiastes is, perhaps, that within the framework of earthly life everything that seems valuable and significant to man is, in fact, vanity and a chasing after the wind...

The Bible says: “And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions… for your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him” (Matt. 6). Why then should we pray at all if God already knows what we need?

As is often the case, you associate prayer only with having a need and asking God for something. Of course, this is also prayer, but it is only one type of prayer...
