And indeed, we search the Scriptures as the key to salvation. It seems like a thick manual which, if we follow it, will finally give us eternity. It is enough simply to understand what is allowed and what is not, how to act in one situation or another, and everything will work out. But the book is not about that.

No matter how people try to reduce Revelation to Law, that is not the point. God reveals Himself. He comes, and it turns out that there are no rules after all. Even judgment for us consists in the fact that the Light has come into the world, and we begin to see that our deeds are evil. Scripture speaks about Jesus. We read what is written for one reason only: to know Him, understand Him, hear His voice. And, realizing that the Bible speaks of nothing else, we must read the centuries-long history of God's Revelation to people in exactly this way. A Revelation that is not easy to accept, because it overturns our usual ideas about how the world is arranged.
