NOTES for Act 10:34-35

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

How hard this understanding comes to us: before the face of God it is precisely I who stand, and He looks precisely at me. For God I am a unique person, not a member of some social group, nation, or church. What matters is our inner faith, our own thoughts and deeds, our personal relations with God and people. And we keep thinking that the main thing is to get onto the "right team": the team will win, and I along with it. We try to guess the signs by which this team is selected: national, confessional, social signs. In reality they are very simple: this team consists of those who fear God and act according to righteousness, and only in this way can we get into it.
