NOTES for Luk 10:38-42

How many reasons there are for division among people. The Gospel of Luke tells of two sisters, Martha and Mary, who welcome Christ into their home. Christ loves them both; they are both dear to Him (cf. Jn, chs. 11-12). Yet even between them a division arises, and Jesus has to intervene to reconcile them. Christ alone grants unity to people. This is also the mystery about which the apostle Paul writes to the Colossians—every person attains perfection in union with Jesus Christ and, through Him, in such unity with all that there is neither Greek nor Jew, and everything in heaven and on earth is united under Christ as its head (Eph 2:10).
