NOTES for Joh 8:1-11

Risky though it is, the Lord gives us the freedom to judge one another. He does not object to the very idea of condemning someone to death, stoning them, shooting them, and so on. He tells the scribes quite seriously that they may stone the sinful woman. Only let those who are themselves pure before God begin, for they are the first to have the right to administer His judgment. If the elders had enough conscience and wisdom, and the younger men at least enough caution not to condemn anyone in the name of God, before whom they themselves were not without sin, why do we lack conscience—we are no worse than others—wisdom—if we stop to reflect every time, we may end up stoning no one at all!—or even the most elementary tact not to condemn those whom the Lord Jesus Himself, the only sinless Man, did not condemn?
