7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath spoken;
8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

God gives a sign to Hezekiah. We have very interesting relations with signs: either we reject them completely, or we long to receive them constantly. But God, strange as it may seem, looks at it completely from another site. He indeed uses the signs, sometimes miraculously and completely “unreal” - as in the reading of today, with the sun. But He doesn’t like, when we ask for signs. Here is an image depicted: sign is what He sends, when He desires. He uses this means, and that is why He doesn’t desire that we reject the signs, and do not believe in them, but the initiative comes from Him, and He has the right not to answer to the request of sending a sign.
