NOTES for Rom 6:8

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Hide

According to Apostle Paul’s idea, our connection with Christ takes place not in life, but in death. Because what we call life is dying from God’s point of view. And Christ, who by His Divine nature is foreign to death, comes voluntarily in our dying to meet with us "in our territory ". This belittling of the Son of God, "kenosis" in Greek, is completely inconceivable for us - an immense way, going from God to us. But for the meeting, our reciprocal movement is necessary too. It takes place, when we make a very small step, accepting that Christ didn’t die just like that, but by love for us and for our sake, that in our baptism we experience His death as a fact of our personal biography, changing radically the direction of our movement, because dying ends on it. Having so met with Christ in death, we do not part any more from Him, even in the resurrection. The word "believe" is very exact here: it is not a scientific knowledge, but trust in God, the hope in the strength of His love salvific for us.
