NOTES for Mat 27:51
Jesus dies on the cross. “The earth trembled, and rocks split ". The nature "feels" the importance of what is taking place and marks the event, quite as it marked His birth. But there were the Advent stars at that time there - a joyful sign of hope, while now it is earthquake, a terrible warning to people who killed the Prince of life (to see Acts of the Apostles 3:15 ).
But the death of Jesus is not only a crime of people, a temporary triumph of the evil, but it is also an act of Expiation of the creative God; the torn veil of the temple testifies this, this veil that always separated people from the Sanctuary, the place where God indwells, symbolizing the insuperable abyss existing between God's holiness and human sin. Thus, the death of the Son of God, who took away our sins fulfills the redemption and reconciles us with God. The abyss is closed, the veil is removed. The cherubim occluding the way to the tree of life removes his sword (Genesis 3:24).
