NOTES for Luk 8:18

18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

To be very precise "even the little he thinks that he possesses". Jesus doesn’t mean at all something such as the saying "money begets money". He speaks about such relations with God that we aren’t used to, relations of trust and respect (and eventually of love). God proposes to all His relations, and imposes them to nobody. The person, accepting freely this gift gets into the endless process of development of these relations, the purpose of which is to deify the man, the plenitude of his entry into God's life. But the person who believes that everything is well for him, who thinks that the relations with God (which seems to him that he has) are sufficient for him, closes by these very facts himself from God, doesn’t accept what God gives - and this means tears even the weak threads that were still sustaining him on the top of this life. "Take heed how ye hear", tune your "receivers" on the waves of God’s Grace.
