NOTES for Ti2 4:3-4

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The words of the apostle about difficult times for the preachers "of sound doctrine" came true, it is necessary to recognize, very fast after his death. And continue until today. And Paul defined very exactly the reasons of what happens, although very briefly, so exact that the explanation given by him of the reasons of what happens remain relevant today.

Moreover, in this case, he is in fact only repeating the words of the Savior said by Him in answer to the objection of some of His interlocutors, for whom His words seemed either too harsh, or inappropriate. He then spoke about the wisdom, protected by his partisans; protected not because they are persuaded by its authenticity, but because it is familiar, comfortable and usual to them. And Paul indeed speaks about the same thing: people are not seeking for truth, but for convenience and comfort. And this does not depend as seen, from the religiosity or the agnosticism of man: because, even in religion we can also find many of which pleases the eyes, hearing and the soul of a religious man, the heart of his pride.

It is not surprising that there are "teachers", ready to play the role of the staff to seek religious comfort: the demand creates the offer, and the religion is subject to this law quite as other different sphere of the public life, because unlike the revelation given by God, religion is just a matter of human’s hands and minds. And it is not the searches of convenience and comfort that are horrible in themselves here (there is in fact nothing bad in it), but the fact that because of those things, the seekers are ready to neglect and the truth, and the revelation, and the Kingdom.
