NOTES for Psa 13:3

Is everything really so bad? After all, we have met people, and not just one, but many, who did good. And in general, all people are different: some are better, others worse. How can they be equated?

This is how all this looks from our human point of view. But the psalm conveys to us what God sees. And He sees that there is no one who would do only good, and it appears we can agree with Him in this. But it is said: "Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point becomes guilty of all" (Jas. 2:10). From this absolute point of view, all are equally worthless, and there is no point in comparing ourselves with one another: not "one is better and another worse," but "both are worse." Only absolute righteousness is within God's power. Only the Son of God revealed the fulfillment of this righteousness in a human being. Only Christ is the sole standard given to us for comparison, before whom we are all sinners to the same degree. But in Christ God opens to us not only the possibility of seeing our worthlessness, but also entry into His righteousness, and in this is the Good News of Christianity.
