NOTES for Co1 6:19
Much has been said and written about the spiritual life generally and about the Christian spiritual life in particular. But what really means the spiritual life of the Christian?
It is sometimes very difficult for us to answer this question, maybe, because mostly in our days under spiritual life we mean several things, of which have no direct link with it at all: here theology, and morality, and even religion, and the mystic experiences, and several other things, which, being connected to the spiritual life and engendered by this one, are not all the same identical to it. Because it is obviously more natural to understand under spiritual life, the life of our spiritual "ego", which is very often called in the biblical language- the heart, and it manifests itself, first of all, as a will and a relationship.
And our spiritual life is above all relationships connecting us with God and our neighbors. Here begin the most interesting. The fact is that, according to numerous biblical testimonies, God agrees to build relationships with us only on His conditions. He imposes nothing to us, He only proposes Himself to us, but requires besides that we allow Him to enter unconditional and absolutely in our life.
Any little less and it seems He does not agree any more. But then it turns out that, if we wish to have normal and complete relationship with God, it will be necessary for us to give up belonging to ourselves. And if we decide to do that, our heart and our entire life, internal and external, will be filled with the breath of God, this breath of the Kingdom, of which the apostle writes. Well then God Himself will bring back to us that life, we decided to give Him. Will return in such plenitude that we would never have obtained without Him, without His help and without His participation.
