NOTES for Eph 3:14-21
There is an interesting paradox in the apostle Paul’s words today: he prays that the Ephesians may “know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.” To know something that surpasses knowledge! In modern terms, he wants them to understand what cannot be understood! But is that possible? It is. There are simply different kinds of knowing and understanding. Paul, it seems, is saying that Christ’s love cannot be grasped by reason, but it can be known through God’s grace. He grants understanding, including understanding at the rational level, but it comes from God rather than from our intellect.
