NOTES for Ti1 1:15
These words are among the most known words of the apostle Paul, reflecting something exceptionally important in our faith. It has been already fifteen centuries since several Christians use them in their prayer before taking part in the Supper - the Body and Blood of Jesus, saying: "I Believe, Lord, and I confess that You are really the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Who come into the world to save the sinners, of whom I am chief". We believe consequently not only that God exists - it goes without saying in fact. We believe either not only that God is powerful to deliver us from death, but it is also obvious.
We believe He has already done everything, He came into the world. And again one more astounding thing, that the apostle Paul mentions repeatedly: God came to us, when we were still sinners. God's love to us is such that it saves us from the depth of death, giving a new possibility of becoming worthy of this love. And, maybe, the most important - the words: "... Of them the first I am". But this assertion, in all its correctness, suffers from certain abstractedness. The practical meaning is that He came not only to all, but to each personally.
