NOTES for Gen 34:1-31
The story told in this chapter is the story of a founder and his followers. It would seem that the sons inherit the covenant from their father. And as one reads, it seems that their decisiveness will now lead to the people's increase taking place not simply within one family, but through the pagans' acceptance of the covenant. And as a result, circumcision - the sign of the covenant - is put forward as the main condition under which mixed marriages are possible. But it turns out that this was only a well-planned revenge. This becomes the cause of the conflict between Isaac and the sons, who used the confirmation of the eternal covenant with God for the extermination of people who were ready to become close in every respect.
