NOTES for Pe1 2:4-5

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

There are different kinds of stones. Living ones, for example. We know that Christ is the cornerstone. We also know that He called the apostle Peter a rock. Today the apostle Peter reminds us that each of us is a living stone, and from these stones the Church of God is built. How is it built? By itself? In a certain sense, yes: the stones themselves are built into a spiritual house, as the apostle Peter says. They themselves "build themselves" into the Church! They? We, you and I. We ourselves build the Church by finding our place in it. By itself? In a certain sense, yes: the stones themselves are built into a spiritual house, as the apostle Peter says.
