For some reason, it is very important to this woman to invite Elisha into her home. Her reasoning is simple: “I know that he is a holy man.” A holy man—so what? For her, however, this leads to a conclusion: something good must be done for this man. Perhaps she expects a “reward”? No. When Elisha offers to help her with something, she says that she needs nothing. Moreover, when Elisha promises that she will have the son of whom she had dreamed, she does not believe him—which means that she had no such self-interest either. Why, then, did she invite Elisha and care for him? Simply because he is a man of God and a holy man. That is enough.
