21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; |

In today's Old Testament reading the Lord says: "I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth." Of course, this is a special poetic biblical language, and of course these words can be interpreted in very different ways. But here is what came to my mind today. We believe in the communion of saints. Perhaps today's passage is speaking precisely of this communion. Heaven will hear earth: the Church Triumphant will hear the prayers of the Church Pilgrim. And the Lord will hear heaven: the prayers of the Church Triumphant, of the angels and saints.
