NOTES for Mal 2:1-2
1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. |
2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. |

The prophet Malachi speaks terrible words... And it is especially terrible that they are addressed not to some rather abstract Jewish priests for us, living many hundreds of years ago, but personally to each of us. Our blessings, our prayers are cursed if they are not from the heart. No mechanics help. However many wonderful pious actions we may perform, they are all meaningless if the heart does not participate in them. And there is no recipe, no mechanical way to be reconciled to God with the heart. Only sincerity, only authentic love. And only He, the Knower of hearts, who knows each of us by name, will be able to kindle the fire of love in the heart, if we want it and accept it.
