NOTES for Isa 61:8

For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

Is God just? Yes, and, moreover, He loves judgment, a realized justice. Is God cruel in His justice? Probably yes, because He hates sin (or as here - robbery and iniquity). But is He really cruel? And what do we understand by cruelty? Usually it is the realization of one’s will by all means, without taking into consideration the opinion, the feelings, the will of other people, and thus - do injustice to other people. But indeed, God hates injustice! It means His justice is not cruel; He accomplishes judgment by other means. And through the prophet Isaiah God explains how: by giving a deserved reward and by agreeing with people (a covenant is an agreement). Nonviolent methods from God’s point of view are the most effectives! Are we able of learning that from the One, Who is meek and humble of heart?
