NOTES for Isa 12:1-6
This hymn, connected with the preceding messianic prophecy, can become our prayer as well, since we live in an age when the prophecies are being fulfilled. People from all nations call on the name of the Lord and draw living water from Him (compare John 7:38); the Lord dwells in the midst of His people (Rev. 21:3).
But prophecies have one characteristic feature: the time of their fulfillment depends on the state of our heart. Living in the New Testament era, we can still find ourselves outside the salvation foretold many centuries before us. May "that day," the day of singing, joy, and salvation, come for us as well.
