NOTES for Deu 27:10

In the Bible, the words "commandment" and "today" appear in the same verse 19 times, and all these cases are in the book of Deuteronomy. This book is permeated with a sense of the immediacy of our relationship with God. Of course, that relationship has its own prehistory, but the Word of God, His commandments, His love - these are not things that existed only once, at the creation of the world, or at the making of the covenant at Sinai, or at the Crucifixion and Resurrection. They are what exists here and now. The voice of the Lord God sounds even now. Let us listen to it.
