NOTES for Lev 8:1-36

Today's reading foreshadows a key event in the history of salvation - the sanctification of the human person, being clothed in former dignity, and being appointed to eternal service to God. The concept of priesthood is one of the most important concepts in the Bible, because a priest is a mediator between God and creation. This was precisely the task entrusted to Adam in paradise; this is why the people of God are called a royal priesthood; and this is the mission fulfilled by Christ the High Priest.

All the actions performed over Aaron and his sons on the day of their consecration became crucial symbols of the sanctification of the human person. These symbols can be found among the prophets, in the book of Revelation, and in Christian worship: garments of glory, sacred anointing with oil, sanctification by the blood of the sacrifice - all of this is fulfilled in fullness in the ministry of Jesus Christ and in the sanctifying work of the Spirit.
