NOTES for Jer 51:15

Of course this is poetry, not theology, but still it is noteworthy: three qualities, three attributes of the Creator are named: power, wisdom, and understanding. One can say that power and understanding form two poles, while wisdom encompasses them, because wisdom is powerful understanding and understanding power. Parallel to this, two poles are given in creation - earth and heaven: the earth, as a symbol of matter, is governed by power, and heaven, as a symbol of spirit, is guided by understanding. But both are included in the concept of the universe - the whole fullness of creation, in which the wisdom of God reigns.
