Serving the Lord on earth should not resemble governing a state; it can be accomplished neither by armed force nor by might. Those who have received sacred anointing and a blessing for a special ministry are likened in the prophetic vision to a lamp that disperses the darkness. Yet throughout the centuries, how often people have wanted—and still want today—to establish truth and justice precisely by armed force and might, means so familiar that they seem inseparable from the foundations of existence!
But the Lord invites us to shine. If we are prepared not to “put things in order,” but peacefully to reflect His light and love and carry them onward, we may soon see for ourselves that quietly keeping the commandments and remaining prayerfully united with the Lord changes the world—perhaps not abruptly, but far more deeply and reliably than violent transformations do.
