NOTES for LukĀ 12:39-48
We continually postpone repentance until the last moment. I can still sin now, but on such-and-such a day I will go to confession and repent there; or when I am about to die—then I will repent; or even when the Lord questions me at the Judgment—then I will repent! We are deceiving God. After all, we know that He is with us all the time and sees us all the time. We know that we must always strive to imitate Him, not from fear of punishment, but because with our sins we drive nails into His palms. And we can ask forgiveness at once, so that we do not imagine we can “store up” sins and then dump them on God. God carries our burden upon Himself at every moment so that it will not become unbearable. But we can help Him carry at least a tiny corner of the Cross, for His Cross is made up of our crosses.
