3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Behind this blessing of the apostle Paul stands very deep theology. Fallen "Adamic" human nature is unable to contain "every spiritual blessing" from God, but the Son of God, having become incarnate and become the Son of Man, bears in Himself another, sinless, "Christic" human nature, and therefore it is precisely in Him that God blesses people with an eternal blessing, "in the heavens." Before the foundation of the world, God, having conceived the human being as a creature endowed with freedom, provided, in case of our fall, the saving work of Christ who came in the flesh, so that we, by union through faith with Christ, would become partakers of His sinless nature and therefore holy, blameless, and filled with love. Thus for us who have believed in His coming, in His Nativity for which we are now preparing, God's election is opened, and the first of all chosen humanity is She who believed first, the Most Holy Theotokos.
