NOTES for Luk 8:22-39
Everything is subject to the Son of God—the raging elements and legions of demons alike. Only from a human being does He await free consent to communion and love. Even when a person’s will is afflicted, as in the case of the demoniac, Jesus is ready to come to our aid so that at last we may make a free choice. But freedom from demons or from other circumstances that enslave our will does not yet give us true freedom. We find it in doing God’s will (like the former demoniac, who went to bring the Good News to his compatriots), and also in the Holy Spirit, who enables us to know God and His Kingdom.
