NOTES for Isa 54:1-17
Most often, when people think about God, they associate Him with the demands He makes of them: commandments, morality... For example, we all know that God requires us to love one another, forgive offenses, and remain faithful in marriage. But our attitude toward Him changes radically when we understand that He Himself fulfills all these demands first! He compares Himself to a faithful husband ready to receive an unfaithful wife, to a man who redeems his brothers from slavery (which may be the meaning of the word “redeemer”), and to a father who builds a dwelling for his children. The source of human love, justice, faithfulness, and mercy is in Him. It is He, who Himself fulfills His commandment, who can teach us to do the same.
