NOTES for Lev 27:1-34
In fulfillment of a vow, one can give one's house, land, or livestock for the needs of the sanctuary. But the most important vow is the dedication of oneself, when a person symbolically gives himself into the Lord's possession, paying a monetary ransom for himself instead of entering real slavery. Such a vow reflects the summit of every religious striving: true service to God, when He directs a person in everything and leads him toward the goal known only to Him.
We, however, have a real possibility of such service. Let us remember that the apostles called themselves slaves of God and of Christ. This service is not an abstraction, for we really can be guided by His Word, His Spirit, and His commandment of love.
