NOTES for Luk 12:34
Today the Lord reveals to us a very important thing about the goal of human life. He says that a person sets this goal for himself, and we ourselves are responsible for making it something worth living for. If the goal of all our activity is purely earthly well-being, the result will be sad. But, the Lord says, the heavenly Father Himself was pleased to give us nothing other than the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore we can choose it as the goal of our life. Such a goal requires readiness and watchfulness from us, because we set it and seek to attain it not by ourselves, but as servants of the one Master. This is the choice given to a person: being closed in on oneself and one's petty interests, or taking part in the Creator's design. Making this choice is hard; it requires considerable spiritual effort. But which of the two alternatives offered is low and meaningless, and which is lofty and beautiful, is generally obvious.
